You are right, Carol, none of us ever was forced to worship or love God, and yet not one single state opted out.

As I read this, it seems that you conceive of God as something that can only loved/loved by/understood/worshipped in Christian terms. Moslems love God, Jews love God, and there are people all over the world who are not Christians and yet believe in and worship the divine and who, more importantly, try to follow the precepts that Jesus taught about love, humility, and compassion–precepts Christians claim as their own but, as evidenced by the intolerance of some to others’ differing views and ways of life, seem to ignore when in favor of the kind of refusal to recognize and respect the wonderful diversity of faith in this country.

Christians do not have a monopoly on God, or on this country, or a superior understanding of God’s will (or even Jesus’ teachings). Those who think they do, it seems to me, are missing the point.

Great point Carol. This is the one main issue that needs to be kept on the front burner. His Grandmother in Hawaii never stated that she was at his birth but his grandmother in Kenya states she was at his birth in Kenya!! Who to believe?
Keep up the investigation as I will, as time permits and I do not end up on the list.
